Privacy Policy

HSX EarthvisOS is developed by Hasnain Studio X with a local‑first, privacy‑first design philosophy. A desktop shell on the living planet.

Effective date: 8 October 2026  ·  Last updated: 8 October 2026  ·  Applies to: HSX EarthvisOS for Windows, version 1.1.0 and later (previously released as HSX EarthShell)

The short version

HSX EarthvisOS has no account, no sign-in and no server of its own. It does not collect, sell or share your personal information. Your settings, downloads and map cache stay on your PC. What goes online is the map imagery you look at, the place searches you choose to run, and the Microsoft Store licence check.

1. Who we are

HSX EarthvisOS is developed and published by Hasnain Butt Akhtar, trading as Hasnain Studio X (referred to as "we", "us" or "the developer").

2. Scope of this policy

This policy covers the HSX EarthvisOS desktop application for Windows. It does not cover the programs you launch from it, the websites you open in its built-in browser, or the map services it displays; their own policies apply.

3. Information the app handles

Everything below is read or created on your device. Unless section 7 says otherwise, none of it is transmitted to us or anyone else.

Your home place

On first run the app guesses your home region from your Windows region and time zone settings, using a city list built into the app. Nothing is sent online for this. You can set the exact place in Settings; it is stored only on your PC and is used to calculate sun angles, sunrise and sunset.

Programs, windows and system state

The app reads your Start menu shortcuts to list installed programs, the titles and icons of open windows for its taskbar, nearby Wi-Fi network names for the Wi-Fi panel, and processor, memory, disk, network and battery readings for its instruments. These stay in memory and are never sent anywhere.

Your own content

Settings, your download history, the browser profile and cached map tiles. Clipboard history is kept in memory only and is gone when the app closes. Screen captures are taken only when you ask and are saved to Pictures\EarthvisOS.

Error log

If the app recovers from an error, it writes the error type and a short message to a local log, capped in size. It is never sent anywhere.

4. Information we do not collect

  • No account, profile, email address, username or password. There is no sign-in.
  • No advertising identifiers and no advertising code.
  • No analytics, crash-reporting or telemetry SDK of any kind.
  • No precise location. The app does not use Windows location services or GPS, and no longer looks up your IP address.
  • No contacts, calendar, camera, microphone, messages or browsing history collection.
  • No payment information. Purchases are handled entirely by the Microsoft Store.

5. How information is used

Local information is used only to make the features described on the Store listing work: to draw the map and the real daylight, show your instruments, run the taskbar and built-in apps, and remember your preferences. It is never profiled, sold, shared or used for advertising.

6. Storage, retention and deletion

HSX EarthvisOS stores its files in your Windows profile under %LOCALAPPDATA%\EarthOS: settings, theme, download history, the browser profile, an icon cache, up to 1.5 GB of cached map tiles and the error log. The folder name comes from the app's original code name and keeps your data across updates.

  • Clear cache in Settings deletes the cached map tiles.
  • Delete the folder above to remove everything the app has stored.
  • Uninstall through Windows Settings. No data exists on any server of ours, because we have none.

7. Network activity and third parties

Settings lists every request the app made in the current session, by service.

  • Map imagery. As you look around the map, the app requests the image tiles for the area on screen from Esri (satellite view), the OpenStreetMap Foundation (street view) and NASA GIBS (night lights). A tile request carries only the tile's position and the app's name, plus the standard information any web request carries, such as your IP address. These providers' own terms and privacy policies apply.
  • Place search. Only when you choose "Search the world", the words you searched for are sent once to OpenStreetMap Nominatim. Typing in Start never sends anything; ordinary results come from lists built into the app.
  • Microsoft Store licence check. Windows tells the app whether your copy is a trial or a full purchase, under the Microsoft Privacy Statement.

Other network activity happens only when you start it: pages you open in the built-in browser, files you download and links you click. The built-in browser runs on the Microsoft Edge WebView2 engine: the copy installed in Windows when it is up to date, or the copy bundled with the app. We use no third-party analytics, advertising, attribution or crash-reporting service.

8. Permissions the app requests

  • Run as a full-trust desktop app: To act as a desktop shell: list and launch programs, show and switch windows, reserve space for its taskbar, read hardware counters, list Wi-Fi networks and control volume and brightness.
  • Internet client: Map imagery, place searches you choose to run, the Store licence check, and the browser and downloads you start.
  • Startup task (optional, off by default): Only if you turn on start with Windows. Turn it off in the app or in Windows Settings at any time.

9. Children

HSX EarthvisOS is a general-audience utility and is not directed at children under 13. It has no account, social features, chat or advertising, and it does not knowingly collect information from anyone.

10. Your rights and choices

Privacy laws including the UK GDPR, the EU GDPR and the CCPA give you rights over personal information a company holds about you. We hold no personal information about you: there is no database, server or account, so there is nothing for us to look up, export or erase. You control all app data directly on your device using the options in section 6. We do not sell or share personal information.

If you believe otherwise, contact us and we will respond within 30 days. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.

11. Changes and contact

If this policy changes in a way that affects you, the dates at the top will change and the updated policy will be published at this address before the change ships. Questions or requests: [email protected].
